NAGPUR, India: Sri Lanka have lost key spinner Rangana Herath for the significant third Test against India beginning Saturday on account of intermittent back issues.
We have reviewed Herath and he will return promptly as we chose to rest him", selectors' administrator Graeme Labrooy told correspondents.
"Herath will be supplanted by Jeffrey Vandersay", Labrooy included.
The veteran Herath rocked the bowling alley 39 overs of his left-arm turn in the second Test in Nagpur that finished with India whipping the guests by an innings and 239 runs.
"Rangana griped of solidness in his back amid the match. This transpires at whatever point he tries to bowl somewhat speedier," said group administrator Asanka Gurusinha.
Herath must be refreshed amid Sri Lanka's home arrangement against India this year with a similar issue. Sri Lanka lost every one of the nine Tests, one day diversions and T20 coordinates in that arrangement.
Vandersay has played 11 one-day internationals and seven Twenty20 matches for Sri Lanka yet still can't seem to influence his Test to make a big appearance.
Sri Lanka trail the arrangement 1-0 after the main rain-hit Test in Kolkata finished in a draw.
