Facebook is Going to Use Artificial Intelligence to Stop Suicides

Live video streaming is very popular way to share personal moments on Facebook. Facebook is providing media platform for sharing important events with global friends. However, Facebook Live streaming is recently been used to broadcast more than one suicide case.




Facebook previously introduced its basic ‘suicide prevention features’ which allow users to flag troubling status or image, thus drawing attention to potential suicide attempt. Now social media giant has re-designed those tools and integrated them on live videos. Facebook user now reach out to someone directly, and report stream easily.

Can Call Emergency Helplines Directly

It is possible for users to contact an emergency helpline, chat directly with experts from organizations like as “Crisis Text Line”, National Eating Disorder Association. “Lifeline”, etc. Moreover, Facebook is now testing to use artificial intelligence (AI) to detect posts having troubling content, even if those post have not been reported by Facebook’s users.

Facebook founder and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg”, recently add detail on these measures in status update, and explain the logic behind them saying,

“Suicide is 2nd leading cause of death for 15-29 year olds. Stopping of suicide is complicated, but experts said that one of the best ways to help is if someone who is in dishearten from people who care about them. There is a lot more work to do here, & I am looking forward to working with all of you to do it”.

These measures come at time when Facebook is concentrate on keeping the world community safe. Facebook as an important part of its mission.
