After being sent into bat, New Zealand made 187 for seven with Glenn Phillips scoring 56 and Colin Munro 53.

In answer, the West Indies in answer were hard and fast for 147 in the nineteenth over, with Andre Fletcher making 27. New Zealand debutant Seth Rance took three for 30, and Tim Southee completed with three for 36.
