Mobile Games Generates Over 25% More Revenue than PC Gaming in 2016: Report

Playing games has always a great fun, but with the passage of time this era of gaming has changed now. Computer games & Mobile games are two different things and different platform. PC and mobile games aim at different audience, with each passing of day mobile gaming is generating momentum day by day.



PC games focused on serious and mature audience, who wants real advanced graphics action for most of their games. However Mobile gaming focusing on casual gaming audience where users mostly play games according to their comfort.

Since 2014, mobile gaming apps beat both home game consoles and Mac and PC gaming depend on consumers interest. Global Market analyst firms, IDC and App Annie announced in their recent report that mobile app gaming revenue was 25% increase than the income generated by Mac and PC gaming in 2016.

“2016 was best year yet for mobile games, consumers spending nearly 25% more than the year prior.”
Danielle Levitas said at App Annie, SVP of Research.

“The breakout success of Pokémon GO propelled mobile games further ahead of consoles, Mac or PC, and handheld consoles. As augmented & virtual reality technologies continue to emerge, we expect mobile technology will remain biggest revenue generating platform for gaming.”

The report added that China and Japan were two major markets that flock the growth of mobile games. Asia accounted over 60% of gaming revenue in last year 2016.

Following is the list of games that generated revenue in 2016:
  1. · Monster Strike won the title for Google Play store. 
  2. · Fantasy Westward Journey is the biggest grossing game on iOS. 
  3. · Top grossing game for handheld gaming console went to Pokemon Sun and 
  4. · Pokemon GO came third in terms of total game spend in Google Play and iOS     platforms.
  5. · Pokemon Moon for Nintendo 3DS.

With the popularity of games we can expect to witness greater application of VR and AR in future.

Almost 80% of youngster’s played mobile AR games for more than five hours in a week in Q3 2016. On the other hand Mobile VR, still in its initial stages. So let’s see when we get to witness mobile VR formally go mainstream.
